Comparing Islam to the period of ignorance does not receive the attention it deserves, and surely, nobody will ever be able to appreciate the change as much as the Companions themselves did. Jabir bin Samura narrated that the Companions used to sit in the mosque after the morning prayers, speaking and laughing about the pre-Islamic times, while the Prophet ﷺ would simply smile (Muslim, Şahih Muslim, p. 313). They would reminisce about the massive changes as if they occurred a lifetime ago. Though, the shift only actually occurred during a mere few years for most of the Companions.
