Erratum List

Though our translations are rigorously reviewed before publishing, human error may cause some mistakes to slip through. We will list all mistakes that affect the meaning on this page. (Last updated: 6/12/2019)

Please correct the following mistakes if you own the same edition:

A Critique of the Ruling of al-Taqlid (First Edition):

-Page 31, footnote 10: "shawahidhu" should be "shawahidihi" due to being preceded by the letter ba.

A Commentary on al-Ajrumiyyah (First edition) The second edition has now been printed (24/9/18):

-Page 162, there is a typo in the three paragraphs on this page: The letter kaaf attached to "abu" in the examples has been written as "the mudaf" instead of "the mudaf ilayhi".

-Page 194, typo in the third paragraph. The correct wording is "with the addition of a letter hamzah of affirmation." This was due to a typo in the Arabic print which we relied upon.

-Page 252, the second paragraph from the bottom of the page: "The letter ma which is originally a participle but now changes to become an adverb because of its connection to a verb." The correct translation is, "The letter mā al-masḍarīyyah (gerundivial) al-ẓarfiyyah (adverbial). This consists of one verb".

-Page 402, footnote 239: "when mudh and mundhu are used before". "After" should be "before"

-Page 404, footnote 242: Correct wording is, "that al-Danūsharī said, “The muḍāf will always be a noun for its infliction with tanwīn or a nūn and because of the main objective of it being a muḍāf is to make the muḍāf definite, whereas a verb cannot be definite. Likewise is the case for the muḍāf ilayhi as it is being ruled upon, and only nouns can be ruled upon.”

A Commentary on Zad al-Mustaqni' (Volume 1 & 2) (First edition) Our post production review of the 1st edition was completed on 18/2/17. The second edition has now been printed (April 2018):

-Appendix, pp. 801, line 9 of the third paragraph: "nor from the point of view" should be, "but not from the point of view."

-Pp. 28, line 1 of third paragraph: "The living and the dead send salutations upon him (salallahu alayhi wa sallam)." This is an error and has been corrected in 95%+ of the 1st edition copies. The correct translation is, "Salutations were sent to him whilst he was living and after his death..."

Page 70, last line of the hadith of Abu Ayub: "Departed from there quickly". The correct translation is "turned our direction."

-Page 110, line 5 of paragraph 2: "Then it is recommended to wipe on top again" The correct translation is: "it is counted as wiping over the top whilst the rest is something extra from the person"

-Page 136: In the matn point and the explanation that follows it "turab" is more correct to be termed as "clean earthly dust" rather than "sand". In the hadith the word is "raml" i.e. "sand" and not "tin" i.e. "clay".

-Page 368, Last line of paragraph 1: "another" is a typo. It should be "entered the".

-Page 414, hadith in 2nd paragraph from the bottom: The correct translation of the beginning of the hadith is, "His manner was to the extent that it seemed that he was warning the army."

-Page 642: Line 5 of the 3rd paragraph: "The sapling of this tree is known as 'Hulayfah'." The correct translation is, "Hulayfah is the diminutive form (Arabic grammar: tasghīr) of halfa."

-Page 676: First paragraph: The directions of the boundaries of the Madinah haram have been mixed up. Mounts 'Ayr and Thawr are the north and south boundaries. The two lava fields are the east and west boundaries.

-Page 682: A clearer translation of the seventh point would be: "Seven rounds should be performed completely. Each round starts at the black stone and ends at the black stone."

-Page 728: Last line: In the matn, the Arabic word "khasi" (castrated) has been mistranslated as "an animal naturally born without testicles." The correct translation is "an animal which has had its testicles removed but its penis remains intact". Please also note the same in the relevant point in the commentary underneath it, and that the hadith mentions two castrated sheep and not one.
